IMG_4368Get to know Acme’s Estimating Manager in his own words:

Name:  Glen Pohl

Title:  Estimating Manager

Education:  Kansas State University – B.S. Construction Science Management

Work History:  While in high school and college, I worked building houses and erecting pre-engineered buildings.  After graduation from KSU in 1992, I worked for Kiewit Industrial out of Omaha, NE.   While at Kiewit, I worked in the state of Washington building 2 co-gen power plants as a civil superintendent; served as a mechanical field engineer on an INEL pit 9 nuclear remediation plant in Idaho; and was a project engineer on another co-gen power plant in Joliet, IL.

In January 1999, I left Kiewit Industrial and joined Acme Erectors as a project manager.  I worked along with Aron, Acme’s current President, to acquire jobs and manage them from beginning to close out.  The majority of the projects I was involved with were structural steel erection with a little fabrication. As a small company, we had to perform a number of activities to get the projects off the ground, from loading tools on trucks to getting materials delivered.  I was also in charge of man power for a number of years moving carpenters, millwrights, and ironworkers from project to project.  As the company grew, I began to spend more of my time estimating.

In 2005, Acme had grown large enough to justify a dedicated estimator, and I assumed the position.  This new company structure aiding in Acme becoming one of the leading erection companies in the Midwest.   In 2013, Acme expanded its estimating department, and I was promoted to estimating manager, where in addition to estimating work, I supervise other estimators.  Our approach to running work is different than most of our competitors.  We have a dedicated estimating team and a dedicated project management team.  This allows us to handle a large number of projects, while still providing excellent client service.

Favorite thing about working for Acme:  I love that we are not afraid to look outside the box of standard projects and are willing to look at renovations and unusual jobs.  The more unusual or challenging the project, the more I enjoy bidding, since you have to analyze each aspect of the job to ensure your estimate will work.

Professional affiliations and community involvement:   Bi-State Fabrication Association, AISC, PCI, Washington Fair Board, and Board of Directors for the Pregnancy Assistant Center

Home and Family life:  I live in Washington, MO with my wife (Jodi) and four kids (triplets, Jordan, Bradley and Chelsea (15) and Peyton(5)).  I enjoy coaching basketball, camping, and wood working (especially building furniture).

One word you’d use to describe yourself:  Family comes first
